Christmas Movie Night at Cathedral
Join us for some Christmas Cheer!
Friday, December 13, 2019
6 pm for Pizza - Movies start at 6:30 pm

“A Christmas Carol” (1951 version)
St. Augustine Room
Rated G, 1 hr 26 minutes

Crotchety Victorian businessman Ebenezer Scrooge (Alastair Sim) has no use for festivity, even at Christmas. After resentfully allowing timid clerk Bob Cratchit (Mervyn Johns) to have the holiday to spend with his loving wife (Hermione Baddeley) and family, Scrooge is swept into a nightmare. The ghost of his late partner, Jacob Marley (Michael Hordern), appears, warning that Ebenezer will be visited by three more spirits who will show the coldhearted man the error of his parsimonious behavior.

St. Thomas Room
“The Muppets Christmas Carol”
Rated G, 1 hr 29 min

The Muppets perform the classic Dickens holiday tale, with Kermit the Frog playing Bob Cratchit, the put-upon clerk of stingy Ebenezer Scrooge (Michael Caine). Other Muppets -- Miss Piggy, Gonzo, Fozzie Bear and Sam the Eagle -- weave in and out of the story, while Scrooge receives visits from spirits of three Christmases, past, present and future. They show him the error of his self-serving ways, but the miserable old man seems to be past any hope of redemption and happiness.

Eucharistic Adoration Closure

Due to the winter weather and Thanksgiving, there will be no Adoration from 6 pm Tuesday, November 26th until 7:30 am Monday, December 2nd.

Cathedral Fest October 26 and 27

St. Mary's Cemetery Fall Clean Up

All decorations are to be removed from the cemetery by October 15th. The cemetery is unable to store any decorations that are not removed, and will remove and dispose of them if left beyond October 15. Because beetles and other damaging insects  lay their eggs in the soil, remove the soil from the pot when you are removing your decorations. If you purchased flowers from the cemetery this year, cemetery staff discards your flowers and the soil for you.

November 1, winter decorations may be placed in your urn or shepherd hook. You may purchase an urn/stand or shepherd hook from the cemetery and we will install it in concrete. Call the cemetery at 507-452-2769 if interested in either of these items. Only shepherd hooks and flower stands purchased through the cemetery are allowed. Christmas trees, garlands, and lights are not allowed in the cemetery.

Wreath/Cross Program
St. Mary’s Cemetery offers fresh evergreen decorations for the Christmas season. Watch for future flyers at your parish or call the office for more information. If you would like the information on this program emailed to you, please email us at, (or call us at 507-452-2769) and we will send you a form to complete.

Join us for Theology Uncorked's last event of the year! Todd Graff, Director of Lay Formation and RCIA for the Diocese of Winona-Rochester, will be with us for his talk, “The Lay Vocation ~ Disciples and Co-Workers in the Vineyard.”

Pope Francis has called on lay women and men to bring “the perfume of Christ’s love” into every setting of daily life – home, work, neighborhood, civic life, etc. As the lay faithful, we have a particular calling and vocation within the Church to be the presence of Christ in the world. Bring your thoughts and questions, and enjoy a cool drink as we reflect together on this challenging and life-giving vocation, Thursday, October 24th at 7pm at The Oaks Wine Bar, 75 W 3rd St, Winona, MN 55987.

Eucharist Mission at Cathedral

You are joyfully invited to attend a life-changing Eucharistic Mission at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Winona, on Monday and Tuesday, September 23 and 24, at 7 pm! The Mission will take place over two days with a separate Eucharistic Reflection talk each evening, accompanied by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Benediction, and Confessions.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the original speaker is unable to attend. Instead, the Cathedral is excited to welcome Msgr. Tom Melvin, Vicar General of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester, as its mission speaker. A highly regarded preacher and spiritual director, Msgr. Melvin will help those in attendance understand the importance of prayer in the life of a disciple of Jesus Christ, and how we can deepen our relationship with the Lord by spending time with Him in the Eucharist. We encourage you to come and be renewed in your faith!

MCCL Fall Tour

National Life Chain

On the first Sunday of October, churches nationwide gather to take a public stand and pray to end
abortion. Participants hold a sign with a life-affirming message while they stand quietly and pray. Strollers for babes/tots! Chairs for the elderly.

When: Sunday, October 6, 2019 - 2 to 3:15 pm

Where: Corner of Huff and Howard (10th St), Winona

Contact: Kathy Foerster at 507-313-6880 or

What: LIFE CHAIN is a time for prayerful self-analysis, repentance, and serious commitment to helping end abortion in our nation. Accordingly, LIFE CHAIN is not chiefly a demonstration, and its witness is not intended for the viewing public only. Instead, its first goal is to minister to its own participants - to those who call Christ their Lord and hold pro-life messages that declare abortion a grave evil that defames the name and holiness of God. (Leviticus 18:21)

Father Andrew Beerman—pastor of the Catholic parishes in Blue Earth, East Chain, Fairmont, and Winnebago, MN—is our guest this month at Theology Uncorked, with his talk, “UNBOUND: Reclaiming and Living Your Freedom in Christ.” Often times there are reasons that we can become bound by evil spirits in our lives, such as anger, anxiety, hopelessness, addiction, fears, self-judgment, etc. Through prayer and application of the five keys to freedom in Christ--as outlined in the Unbound ministry--people come to experience greater joy, peace, and freedom in their souls.   ***Note that this month’s event is an hour later than usual, and also a week earlier than normal due to the Unbound Conference the following week in Fairmont, MN.
