Feeding the Hungry Awareness Weekend: September 30-October 2

Called To Mercy:  Feeding the Hungry Awareness Weekend
September 30-October 2
Hunger is a tremendous problem in our world, our state, and our city.  Every three to five seconds a human being dies somewhere in the world because food is not evenly distributed.  To help people in our parishes the Winona Catholic Community invites you to learn about hunger in our world and local community.

Friday, September 30: Hunger Banquet
Families will experience how hunger affects all of God’s family, both locally and globally.  Join us at 6:00 p.m. in the St. Stanislaus parish basement for this engaging discussion.  Learn what it means to live on a SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly Food Stamps) budget and how food is distributed in our world.  Speakers from Winona agencies that help the poor have been invited to speak about how each of us can have a part in feeding the hungry.  If you would like to attend this event, please contact Ann Sirianni at St. Stanislaus parish (452-5430); RSVP by September 26 would be appreciated.

Saturday, October 1: Feed My Starving Children Mobilepack event
Families representing each of Winona’s Catholic parishes will participate in a Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) Mobilepack.  FMSC is a Christian non-profit organization based in Coon Rapids, MN.  FMSC provides food to help communities in developing countries become self-sustaining.  The Rotary Club of Winona hosts a Mobilepack food packing event in Winona annually.   Volunteers work a two-hour shift packing meals for the hungry at a cost of just 22 cents per meal.  During a full, eight-hour packing day, up to 100,000 meals can be packed and sent to one of more than 70 countries served by FMSC.

Saturday and Sunday, October 1-2: Food Drive for local agencies at all Masses
All parishioners in Winona parishes are encouraged to bring monetary or non-perishable food donations to Mass; donations will be shared with Winona-area agencies represented at the Hunger Banquet on Friday.

For any questions, please call Ann Sirianni at
