Help Wanted for Cathedral Project

Kyle Schneider is a Life scout from Troop 13 in Winona, working toward his Eagle rank.  He will be leading the construction of a prayer garden near the South entrance of the Cathedral on April 12th and 19th.  The prayer garden will include a stone walkway, a bench, and a statue of St. Francis of Assisi, as well as areas for flowerbeds.

If you are able and willing to help in the construction process, please contact Kyle Schneider at kschneider@cotterschools.org or (507) 454-2341.  There are five shifts available, with varying tasks, as well as tools and supplies volunteers may be asked to bring.  All in attendance are asked to bring protective work gloves and work boots.

Reflection: Third Week of Lent

The Third Week of Lent
With this week, we conclude the first part of Lent.  We continue our lessons in the faith, as our practices of Lent become deeper and more full of grace.

We enter into this week reflecting upon the Scrutiny that makes up our intense prayer for those Elect, preparing for Baptism.  And, as we beg, as Church, that they be freed from sin and from all anxiety, we ask those same desires for ourselves.

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph,
in you we contemplate
the splendor of true love,

Prayer for Lent

Lord Jesus,
marvelous is your passion,
the suffering that has warded off
the suffering of us all,
that has atoned for all our sins,
and cures effectually our every sickness.
For what is there that tends to death,
that your death does not utterly destroy?
-St. Bernard of Clairvaux

Reflection:First Week of Lent

The First Week of Lent
It is wonderful to see the early weeks of Lent as a catechism for those who are on a journey toward Baptism at the Easter Vigil.  Each liturgy offers a new "lesson in the faith" for these new believers.  Viewed this way, Lent can be a journey of renewal in faith for us all.  We listen, with the hearts of children, learning old lessons, as though for the first time.

Prayer for Lent

Where charity and love are, God is there.
Christ's love has gathered us into one.
Let us rejoice and be pleased in Him.
Let us fear and let us love the living God,
And let us love Him with a sincere heart.
Where charity and love are, God is there.
As we are gathered into one body,
Beware, lest we be divided in mind.
Let evil impulses stop, let controversy cease,
And may Christ be in our midst.
Where charity and love are, God is there.
And may we also with the saints,
Gloriously see Thy face, O Christ.
The joy that is immense and good,
Unto the ages through infinite ages. Amen.
-sixth century Latin hymn

A Prayer for Ash Wednesday

Gracious God, today begins a period of inner reflection and examination. The days stretch before me and invite me inward to that silent, holy space that holds your Spirit. This special time beckons me to see my life through Christ's eyes and the truth and reality of your love incarnate. Give me the grace to enter the space of these days with anticipation of our meeting. And, when I open my soul to your presence, let your loving kindness flow over me and seep into the pockets of my heart. I ask this for the sake of your love.
