Today is the feast day of the namesake of our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI. It is the feast day of Saint Benedict who died in the middle of the 6th century and is known as "the father of western monasticism." He is given this title because he is the founder of monasticism in the west as it is known today. This means that nearly all religious orders followed his model in some fashion.
